Doors are important objects in the Hello Neighbor series.

Description and History

A door is a hinged or otherwise movable barrier that allows ingress into and egress from an enclosure. In the Hello Neighbor series, doors separate rooms in Mr. Peterson's House and many other locations.

Hello Neighbor

In the Prototype, single doors were implemented.

In Alpha 1, a unique wooden door was implemented in the rifle range.

In Alpha 2, the appearance of single doors became cartoonish. An iron door and a shed door were introduced.

In Alpha 3, doors were given realistic physics. The sound of doors was changed. Orange and yellow doors were introduced. Red doors and double doors were removed from the game.

In Alpha 4, all doors, including the iron door, became wider. Red doors returned. A new door model for Nicky Roth's Apartment was implemented.

In Beta 1, all doors were missing keyholes (despite this, keyholes can still be looked through).

In Beta 3, all the issues related to doors were fixed.

Two new door models appeared in the full game: a unique double door that can be found in the hospital cutscene, and a wooden door which is the final locked door in the basement in Act 1.

Secret Neighbor

Three new door models were introduced in Secret Neighbor:

Usage

Doors not only separate rooms and other interior spaces, but also act as barriers to players (the basement door for example).

Doors can be used against Theodore Peterson. A chair can be propped on a door to stop Theodore from opening it. In HN Alpha 1, Theodore could knock down doors blocked by chairs.

You can look through the keyholes in doors to observe what's happening on the other side.

Some doors are locked by locks, combination locks or keycard terminals. Depending on the game or build, the player will have to find the key, code or keycard necessary to unlock a locked door.

Appearance

Single Door

In the Prototype, Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1, all single doors are made out of wood, have brass door handles, and have keyholes.

In Alpha 2, all single doors became larger and wider, are simplified, and are slightly crooked. Like the door model from the Prototype - Alpha 1, the Alpha 2 and onwards door model has a keyhole, but the handle was altered in shape and became silver.

Double Door

A double door is two single doors put together.

Iron Door

The iron door is a large fortified door which has a small round window and a round vault door handle.

Orange Door

Orange doors are single doors but orange.

Nicky's Apartment Door

The apartment door is brown and has a mail slot.

Secret Neighbor

Double Barn Door

The double barn door is made of many boards connected by nails with two loops at each door.

Keycard Terminal Doors

These are highly secure doors within a wooden door frame, locked by a keycard terminal. The door itself is made of metal and wood.

Basement Door

The basement door in SN looks very similar to the locked wooden door in the Act 1 basement in HN. It is chestnut-colored door with boards and iron plates nailed onto it. Six locks are present on the door.

Trivia

  • In Pre-Alpha there is small locked door in the strange room trying to open it isn't possible but it works same like other doors.
  • In Alpha 1, if you back a door with a chair and Mr. Peterson wants to go into it, he breaks the door with the chair. The door will no longer be able to be used, but it can be picked up and it's icon is the placeholder Golden Apple icon.
  • In subsequent versions, Mr. Peterson's ability to break down doors is replaced by a simple knocking out chair that prevents the door from opening.
  • Mr. Peterson can not break out the door in Pre-Alpha, so if the player locks themselves in the closet room, Mr. Peterson will not be able to get into it.
  • If the player often uses a door, Mr. Peterson will put a trap next to it or put a bucket of water over the door.
  • In the Neighbor_3 Test House there is an old art style door from the Prototype to Alpha 1.
  • The Mod Kit has a door icon that the idea was originally meant to be used in Alpha 1. It is now used in Secret Neighbor as a sign of a secretive door to Mr. Peterson's Secret Room.
  • After the doors were updated, there were cracks between the door and the door itself.
  • When you look into the well, the approximation is animated. Because of it, you can for a moment see the room in a greater angle than through a well.
  • In Secret Neighbor, doors can open in any way (except for the basement door and the double barn door).
  • Previously, for breaking down doors, snouts, Mr. Peterson would beat the door three times. Starting with Beta 3, he does it four times.
  • In Act 2 If you glitched out of the map you are able to go to the player's house. If you opened a door (in the player's house) it would fall over and break.
  • In the first versions of Secret Neighbor, the door, which was snared by a chair, was broken for 8 strokes. By counting this number through the chur large, the developers reduced this number to 4 strokes in both the Beta and Release.
  • In Hello Neighbor 2, doors has crack and can be open in any ways.
